Let’s just say that I was done with the typical gym experience. Nearly twenty years and six different gyms later, I’d become tired of repeating the same old routines. Likewise, I’d paid one too many incompetent (and careless ) personal trainers to push me. I needed something more than trainers, exercise machines, and ellipticals.
At Turbine, the benefits are numerous: there is built-in variety…variety that I don’t have to come up with; in the warm-ups we work the muscle groups that will be used throughout the WOD (as opposed to many boxes that do the same daily warm-up routines regardless of the workout); instead of a one-size fits all approach, the head coach meets you where you are so that you can complete the WOD; and there is the benefit of a friendly, competitive community that serves both social and motivational needs.
I know that at Turbine, I am under the caring supervision of professionals. The head coach will tactfully correct any improper form, and if necessary, suggest the right modifications for the WOD. He uses well-placed encouraging words while letting me work through challenges on my own.
Also, an unexpected benefit of being a member of Turbine is that I’m learning to trust myself. Once believing that the only road to personal progress was through excessive self-drive (despite the evidence to the contrary), I now see how much further I can advance through taking measured and self-trusting steps in an increasingly challenging direction.
