I was looking for a different and more varied workout. I was running some and had run a 5K just before starting CrossFit (CF), but I was looking for a form of exercise that included both cardio and strength training.
I first tried CF at another box and thought it was some version of torture. I HATED it. I swore I would never go back. One day, I was telling Rebecca Boskovic (an AMAZING athlete and member of CrossFit Turbine) about my experience, and she convinced me that I should give CF another try, but this time, at Turbine. Even though everything she was telling me about CF Turbine was incredibly positive, I was still hesitant and it took me 4 months after our initial conversation to give it another shot. Wow, am I glad I did! It has become such a positive part of my life and I’ve never felt better! The Turbine community is positive and encouraging, and the coaching is top-notch. CrossFit is such an incredibly effective form of exercise that ANYONE can do. I am a professional violinist so there are certain movements that must be modified in order to protect my hands & wrists, but I still do every single WOD and get a great workout every single time!
There have been so many bright spots along the way. I think every time I achieve a PR (personal record), it’s a bright spot.
Overall, I am working on achieving greater efficiency in all of the movements and increasing my cardio endurance. More specifically, I am working on double-unders (one day I’ll be able to do one!), better squatting in my wall balls, and jumping to a 20″ box (I’m SO close…). No matter who you are, there is always something to improve! The other Turbine athletes inspire me to improve during every single WOD.
I think my favorite memory is when I realized that, after holding a plank for one full minute and feeling GREAT, I was only able to hold a plank for 7 seconds when I first started at Turbine in January 2015, just 6 months earlier.
